The Biden Effect

August 25th, 2008 · No Comments

Needless to say, it was not what I expected.  I am of course talking about Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama’s choice of Joe Biden as his running mate.  I was expecting something with a little more sizzle.

I am following this Presidential election more closely than I have in the past.  Usually I would vote a straight Republican ticket.  It is what I grew up with and what I know.  However, considering the current state of the economy and country in general, I am starting to weigh my options.  I have not yet decided on who I will vote for in the upcoming election.

My ultimate need is a strong economy.  When you run a website design and search engine optimization company, a strong economy is important.  While business is good, I always want it to be better.  In trying economic times, businesses always seem to want to cut their advertising and marketing budgets.  While this is not a smart thing to do, it is a reality sometimes.  I don’t expect a ton from the government.  If the economy is strong, that is about all I need.  There are a lot of other people to help.

I really thought that Obama would pick someone with a little more umph!  I’ve heard the name Joe Biden thousands of times but I really don’t know much about him.  He has been a Senator for the state of Delaware since 1972.  He is strong in foreign policy.  He is also one of the leading voices on crime, terrorism and drug policy.  At least that is what his website says.

However, the more I look at the choice, the more I like it.  I believe that Obama is no dummy and having someone like Biden to bridge the generation gap is a good thing.  Biden understands Washington and wields a lot of influence.  For all of the reasons, why people say Obama won’t be a good President, Biden fills in the gaps.  I think it is a very smart choice and I like it more and more.  It will be interesting to see how he is portrayed in Republican ad campaigns.  I really think this is going to be one of the most interesting Presidential campaigns in quite some time.
