A moderate earthquake of a 5.4 magnitude hit Los Angeles today. It was also felt in Long Beach at the Blue Sand Design offices. Fortunately, all is well. Our offices are on the tenth floor. I was actually on the phone with a colleague when the first tremors hit. He informed me that they were getting some pretty good jolts. I asked him if he was concerned to which he answered not at all.
I’ll be honest with you. I completely forgot about it for a while. When I called back later in the day, I was informed that a larger quake had hit. I will give you the specifics. The SEO guy took off out of the building like he was shot out of a cannon. I would like to go on record as saying he was probably the smartest one there. He could only be lured back with the promise of barbecue potato chips. Our sales rep made it as far as the door. The colleague that I was talking to earlier was sitting at his desk yelling to everyone to keep working. He did not move a single inch according to eyewitnesses. The oddest thing about it was the people who took off have been residents of the area for years. In the tradition of Sam Houston and Stephen F. Austin, the Texan was the only one who held his ground. He actually considers himself a Californian but that wouldn’t make the story nearly as good.
Fortunately at the offices of Blue Sand in Houston, earthquakes aren’t much of an issue. We only have to deal with tornados, floods and hurricanes. There is never a dull moment.
