Bowl-A-Thon

June 30th, 2008 · No Comments

On Friday, June 27th, a sporting event of epic proportions was held in The Woodlands, Texas.  There was no pre-game show, no pay-per-view and actually no one but the contestants even knew that it was going on.  Yes of course I am talking about the inaugural Smith & Garg / Blue Sand Design Bowlathon.

This unsanctioned event pitted the finest bowlers in the office against each other.  The teams were selected in a draft based on handicap, strength, agility and guile.  In reality, the names were drawn out of a fishbowl.  After much weeklong banter and trash talking, it came time for the contestants to step up to the lane and show what they had.  Needless to say, the contestants can talk a lot better than they can bowl.  It was some of the worst bowling this sports fan has ever seen, my game included.  There were a few surprises, both good and bad.  While I did not win the tournament, I did win my side bet with a sixty pin spot for $20 and pride.  Actually, the 20 bucks and pride were irrelevant.  It was just a lot of fun to go spend some time with some really good people.  It gave us the opportunity to meet some of the friends and spouses of the office and have a few laughs.

Due to the rousing success of the inaugural event, I have the feeling that there will be a second bowlathon.  To everyone that showed up, well done.  Thanks for a great time.
