Last night I had the privilege of playing in a No Limit Texas Hold’Em poker tournament. The event was sponsored by Sellers Group L.L.C. one of our neighbors where I work. It was a great chance to meet new people and enjoy some food and beverage and play poker.
As I had written in my previous blog, I had some concerns about playing in the tournament since my only exposure to the game had been watching The World Series of Poker on ESPN. As I sat down at my table, my only real goal was to not be the first one out. I started out playing very tight. I did a lot of folding in the first five hands. Once we got further into the game, I started trying a few of the tricks I learned from the countless hours of coverage that ran across my corneas. A few worked well and others were a dismal failure. I slow played, bet aggressively and a few times just got plain lucky on the river.
By the time it was over, I placed second which was a total shock because there were a lot of better players than me at the table. I made some mistakes but had a lot of fun in the process. I want to thank Terry and Patrick Sellers for letting me be a part of this. You put on a great event and I had a wonderful time.
